A first aid organisation in Irlam will be providing free life-saving defibrillator training for the community this summer.
The classes at Hamilton Davies Trust on Liverpool Road will offer vital training on Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and use of a defibrillator on July 15 and August 19.
The classes, carried out by Imperative Training, aim to educate residents so they are prepared when dealing with a cardiac arrest. Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) is the sudden loss of activity in the heart due to an irregular rhythm. Without immediate treatment, SCA is always fatal.
Around 60,000 out-of-hospital cardiac arrests happen in the UK every year and the use of a defibrillator within three-five minutes increases survival chances from six per cent to 74 per cent.
Learners are encouraged to get hands-on during the course, with the opportunity to try out their CPR skills on a manikin as well as using a training defibrillator – while being supported and advised by an experienced first aid trainer.
Imperative Training’s Managing Director, Lyndsey Hope, said: “Having the knowledge and confidence to do CPR and use an AED can literally be the difference between life and death in an emergency. They are skills that everyone should know.
“These free courses at the Hamilton Davies Trust in Irlam and Cadishead are a way for Imperative to help educate the wider community on basic life support techniques. Along with supplying defibrillators through our partner defibshop, we are working towards our mission of making the UK a more heart-safe country for everyone.”
Both classes will run in the morning from 10am -12.30pm.
