This bank holiday weekend, residents can attend the new ‘Sounds ‘Round Town’ festival in Walkden, Irlam and Eccles for free.
The festival featuring special performances, DJs and live music kicks off this Saturday on May 25 at Walkden’s Town Centre shopping centre (by Tesco).
There will be live performances from the singer and songwriter Venn Smyth and the NIA Choir. The choir are hot off their recent performances with Young Fathers at the BBC 6 Music Festival and Royal Albert Hall, with DJ Mama Char.
For the kids, there will also be a Three Little Pigs ‘Musical Storyland’ performance from the BBC Philharmonic, as featured on CBeebies. There will also be a ‘Shopping Parade’ which is a movement performance from young people involved with Stage Directions.
The festival will take place between 11am and 3pm.
The following festival will take place on Sunday May 26 from 3pm to 6pm outside Irlam Catholic Club on Liverpool Road.
There will be live performances from Zola Steelpan and youthful indie pop star Alex Spencer with DJ Levi Love on the decks. Three Little Pigs will open the festival with a ‘Musical Storyland’ performance from the BBC Philharmonic followed by a interactive puppet performance and workshops from ‘The Collector’.
Residents can later look forward to Michael James’ acoustic covers from the 60s to the present day at the Corner Lounge, performances from the Potanic Band at Irlam Catholic Club and DJayBex at Las Bombas.
The final day of the festival takes place on bank holiday Monday May 27 on Church Street in Eccles (opposite the bus interchange).
From 12pm to 4pm there will be performances at the bottom of Church Street, from Danny Henry’s participatory ‘Dance Out’ percussion show, NIA Choir and DJ Levi Love.
Eccles Community Art Gallery will also be there for a tile decorating workshop.
