It’s expected to be a “busy old day” at Peel Park this Sunday (May 19) as tickets for the live screening of Hobson’s Choice sell out.
There is expected to be around 600 people at the park for the event which celebrates the 70-year anniversary of the classic film set in Salford.
The secretary of Friends of Peel Park, David Marsden, 55, from Salford, said the community has donated an impressive amount of shoes for an art installation in the park.
The community has donated roughly around 300 – 400 pairs of shoes for the Hobson’s Choice-inspired installation.
David added: “We’ve arranged that the local charity Salford Loaves and Fishes are going to have the shoes after the event to pass to people in need.
“We’ve got a really good selection of good quality shoes that have been donated, I’m sure they’ll be very happy with what they get after the event.”
The Salford Mayor Paul Dennett will be around on the day to unveil a 6ft 9 mural by the artist Paul Pickford. According to David the community groups, Salford Loaves and Fishes, Pinc College and Salford City College have all inputted into the mural.
There is also expected to be a marquee full of people who remember the film that dates back to 1954.
David previously stated: “There are a lot of people around Salford that have a soft spot for this film.”
In the film “there are all sorts of mentions in the film about Chapel Street and Salford” with Peel Park appearing the most throughout the film. If residents are familiar with this film, they may recognise Peel Park as the courting place for Maggie Hobson (Brenda de Banzie) and William Mossop (John Mills).
Although the event is sold out there will be a limited number of tickets available to buy at the event. These tickets will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.
