A consultation is being held over the proposal of extending the Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO) in Salford Quays to reduce anti-social behaviour.
The issue that has been raised by Salford City Council will follow the issues of anti-social behaviour (ASB) in the Salford Quays area surrounding and including the quays, basins and canals.
The action being taken by Salford City Council will the consultation period run until Monday 10 March 2025, and will aim to reduce the ASB on the waterways.
According to Salford City Council, “ASB predominantly occurs alongside periods of good weather and is having a detrimental effect on the quality of life of those within the community.”
The city council is proposing to extend the current Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO) in Salford Quays for a further 3 years under the Anti-social Behaviour Crime and Policing Act 2014 when the current order expires in July 2025.
The order will work alongside the action plan and to be used as an additional tool for partners to use in order to prevent or reduce ASB caused by the minority in the area which adversely affects both the residents of and visitors to the area.
The Local Partnership Delivery group has an action plan in place each year in order to try and address these issues alongside other issues of water safety.
If the order is extended it would prohibit residents from “Jumping from, climbing upon or hanging from any bridge to which this Order applies or aiding, abetting, counselling or procuring such an act etc.”
As well as prevent the removal, displacing, or interfering with life saving equipment except in case of an emergency.
The order will also see unauthorised swimming, as well as depositing or throwing into or onto the water, any animal or any large object unrelated to water activities, including wheelie bins.
Any person who, without reasonable excuse, fails to comply with the Order shall be liable on summary conviction to a fine not exceeding level 3 (£1000) on the standard scale.
Residents in the community will be able to have their say on the proposal – and will be in place around the Salford Quays boundary.
Salford City Council would like residents in the community to participate and complete the survey – which can be found here and will close on March 10.
