Since the new Ceremonial Mayor has been installed, the previous Ceremonial Mayor has given out the £44,000 sum she raised for local charities.
A total of £44,425.15 was raised by Councillor Gina Reynolds in her year as the Ceremonial Mayor of Salford. St Ann’s Hospice (Little Hulton), START and Agnes Hopkins Community Centre all received a cheque for £14,808.38.
Councillor Reynolds nominated all three charities at the start of her year in office.
Now the responsibility has been passed to Councillor Tanya Burch who is the new Ceremonial Mayor of Salford for 2024 – 2025. She was installed at a special ceremony at Salford Civic Centre yesterday on Wednesday May 15.
Councillor Tanya Burch, born in Lviv, Ukraine, has represented Ordsall for 10 years and has just been re-elected.
Her charities are St Ann’s Hospice (Little Hulton) and the Royal Naval Association (Pendleton Branch).
Councillor Burch said: “I am overwhelmed with the honour and privilege to have an opportunity to be the Ceremonial Mayor of Salford, serving the city together with my husband as the Consort and one of my daughters as the Mayoress.
“It promises to be a very exciting year and a huge well done goes to Councillor Reynolds who raised a significant amount for local charities during her term in office.”
Councillor Burch will be joined in her year in office by Consort, Mr Philip Burch, her husband and Mayoress, Miss Hannah Burch who is her daughter.
The Ceremonial Mayor is responsible for carrying out civic duties on behalf of the council. This is a different role to the elected Salford City Mayor.
