Where are they now? Salford Red Devils grand final reaching team

In 2019 Salford Red Devils made history as they made it to the Super League Grand Final for the first time in the club’s history.

Despite falling to a 23-6 defeat at Old Trafford to league winners St Helens, the Salford fans were immensely proud of the sides road to the final which included wins over Castleford Tigers and Wigan Warriors.

The squad has undergone wholesale change since their grand final appearance, with Winger Ken Sio’s departure (being released on compassionate grounds) earlier this week, none of the starting 13 remain at the club in a playing capacity.

Sio’s fellow winger Krisnan Inu is however still employed by the Red Devils and is now the sides assistant coach.

The starting full back that day Niall Evalds joined Castleford Tigers, not long after a second Grand Final defeat with the Red Devils in 2020 this time 17-16 against Leeds Rhinos, where he remained until agreeing to join Hull KR for the 2024 season.

Centre’s Kris Welham and Jake Bibby both departed the first to RFL championship outfit Sheffield Eagles and the latter remained in the Super League with Huddersfield Giants.

Tui Lolohea who started the game at scrum half also ply’s his trade at Huddersfield Giants like Bibby and second row Josh Jones who retired at the Yorkshire based club in 2023.

Another two players who retired after the final are Prop Lee Mossop who hung up his boots in 2021 after 79 appearances with the devils and loose forward Tyrone McCarthy who retired after a short spell at Leigh Centurions.

Where are they now Salford Red Devils starting 13?

Aussie born stand-off Jackson Hastings found himself back in his homeland following a short spell at Wigan Warriors following his departure from the AJ Bell, he now plays in the NRL for the Newcastle Knights and is the only one of the starting 13 to be playing abroad.

Hooker, Logan Tomkins like Centre Kris Welham plays his rugby away from the Super League in the Betfred Championship for Widnes Vikings.

The remaining two players, second row George Griffin for Castleford Tigers and Welsh Prop Gil Dudson who is currently at Warrington Wolves.

Like many of the players coach Ian Watson also ended up at Huddersfield Giants making the move in 2020 after over 164 games at the helm.
