Salford City Striker Matt Smith has earned his spot on this week’s EFL League Two Team Of The Week for a fourth time this season.
Despite Salford’s form this year, combatting injuries to key players McAleny, Vassel and academy star N’mai leaving them 15th in League Two, the Ammie striker has shone this season.
He is joint first as top goal scorer in League Two – with nine goals in 13 games alongside Jake Young of Swindon Town and Will Evans of Newport County.
He features this week after a tremendous performance which did not go unnoticed. The striker was the star man as Salford travelled to Wrexham.
The Ammies got the match underway at The Racecourse Ground, and within 15 minutes Matt Smith, feared for his aerial ability, found himself back post heading past Arthur Akonkwo to make it 1-0.
Smith would go on to make it 2-0 for the visitors in the 36th minute, as a shot from Matty Lund inside the box deflected into the net off of Smith’s foot.
The 34-year-old would further his dominance aerially as he won 11 aerial duels.
Unfortunately, Smith’s performance would not be enough for the three points as Wrexham would make a brilliant comeback, goals coming from Elliot Lee in the first half.
Steven Fletcher and Jordan Davies would score in quick concession to secure Wrexham the win at home with two last minute goals.
Salford will look to rectify this loss in their next match this Saturday at home against 6th place Swindon Town.
