SALFORD City defender Michael Nottingham says the team are looking for revenge ahead of tomorrow’s trip to Darlington as the team look to make up for their opening day loss.
Since then the teams have had contrasting fortunes with the Ammies heading into the game nine points clear at the top of the National League North table, while the under-performing hosts are down in 16th place.
Nottingham Said: “We definitely want to get them back for the first game of the season, it kind of hit us hard because there has been a bit of rivalry between us over the last couple of seasons,
“We’re focused we have got to make sure we do the right things and pick up the three points.
“We’ve got a very strong team this year, even though we didn’t click on the first game, everything has gelled really nicely.”
Salford have an almost fit squad to choose from as they visit the North East for the second consecutive week following their impressive 1-0 victory at Blyth Spartans.
The only absentee is the unlucky Lois Maynard – the former tranmere man picked up groin strain on his comeback from a sprained ankle.
It’s been all change at Darlington this season with former manager Martin Gray leaving the club for divisional rivals York in October taking goalkeeper Adam Bartlett and utility man David Ferguson with him.
Mark Beck, who scored both goals in the corresponding fixture last season, has also left for Harrogate.
The Quakers brought in Tommy Wright as his replacement, but he has yet to taste victory in his opening five games with the club.
Despite this, Salford Midfielder, Mark Shelton, who missed the opening day defeat, isn’t underestimating their opponents this weekend.
He said: “They are good team with a good following and it’s a game of football so anything can happen.”
The 21-year-old joined Salford from Alfreton Town in the summer changing back to full-time football in the process and is enjoying life down at the Peninsula stadium.
“I’ve moved away from home now and am living in Manchester, going full-time helps with fitness as we can outrun teams.
“I’m really enjoying my football.”
