SALE Sharks utility back James O’Connor explained his experience of challenging conditions at the AJ Bell on Friday.
The Australian, who joined Sale in the summer from French side Toulon, made his first start at fly-half since joining the club, in their European Rugby Challenge Cup match against Toulouse.
Post match interview with James O’Connor:
O’Connor said: “I went out for the warm up and kicking into that wind was pretty tough.”
But yeah, we found a bit of space and as well, there were some good touches. So yeah, winter’s coming, hey?”
He also spoke about the difficulties of embedding in a new team and his desire to make himself a permanent fixture in the number 10 jersey: “Some of the calling got a little bit misinterpreted, but we’ll see.”
We’ll keep working on it and I’ll keep working on my game and that’s where I want to be playing, but there’s a lot of guys as well who are quality in that position.”
Steve Diamond’s post match press conference:
Sale Sharks director of rugby, Steve Diamond also gave his verdict on his team’s performance, following the 20-20 draw against Toulouse.
On O’Connor, he said: “I thought he defended well and what attack we did do, he structured it quite well, so yeah, I’m pretty chuffed with him really.”
O’Connor wasn’t the only star on show at the AJ Bell on Friday night, as former Manchester United manager, Sir Alex Ferguson was attending what he revealed was his first ever Rugby match.
