Cancer is the main cause of death in Salford with 25 people per week being diagnosed with the disease.
This comes from the NHS who say: “The number of people dying from the four most common cancers (lung, colorectal, prostate and breast) is higher than the national average.”
Today is world cancer day, which is all about raising awareness of cancer, both with how to deal with living with the disease and the prevention of it.
Most people in the UK and Salford have been affected by cancer, whether that be through living with the disease themselves or being close to someone who has, as 1 in 2 people in the UK contract cancer.
Have you ever been affected by cancer, whether that be yourself or through someone close to you?

Charities such as Macmillan, Marie Curie and Cancer Research UK have all made great strides in raising awareness and funds to help in the research of Cancerous diseases.
One such way in which Cancer Research UK raises funds is through their charity shops, where the public can buy and donate items with the funds being used to fund cancer research.
We caught up with Thomas, a staff member at Salford’s Cancer Research UK superstore.
When asked about what Cancer Research UK’s main target was for the future, Thomas’ answer was simple and effective: “To stop Cancer.”
And with continued donations and effort, that will hopefully soon become a reality.
