MACCLESFIELD Town will be hoping to end their losing streak when they host play-off hopefuls Dover Athletic in the National League at Moss Rose on Saturday afternoon (15:00 GMT).
John Askey’s side have lost their last four league games and were knocked out of the FA Trophy to rock-bottom Torquay United on Tuesday night.
The Silkmen remain in the promotion hunt though, and could move to within two points of the play-off places with victory at the weekend.
Following Saturday’s defeat to Kidderminster Harriers, manager John Askey hinted that changes may need to be made in an attempt to turn their fortunes around.
He told the club’s official website: “If people don’t want to go in for tackles and win headers then we will have to look at getting other people in.
“It’s difficult to change much at this time of the season. We will have a look at what we’ve already got and shake things up a bit.”
After being benched last week, National League top scorer Kristian Dennis is one of those likely to come back into the fold.
The man on loan from Stockport County is the league’s top goal scorer with 21 goals in 28 appearances, and is reported to be attracting interest from numerous Football League clubs.
Chris Kinnear’s Dover side are unlikely to make such drastic chances of personnel; for they have been the league’s surprise package during their first season back in the National League since 2002.
A 4-0 victory over Gateshead last weekend saw them hold onto fifth place in the league, in what Kinnear described as his side’s best win of the season.
After the victory, he told the Dover Express: “It was a very good day at the office. Once we got going, I thought it was probably our best performance of the season.
“We’ve lost one in our last six games now, we are looking ok.”
Ricky Miller (14), Nicky Deverdics (12) and Stefan Payne (12) have already contributed 40 league goals between them this season, and the trio will have to be kept quiet if the hosts are to find any joy on Saturday.
Provisional squads:
Macclesfield Town: Jalal (GK), Branagan (GK), Halls, Diagne, Pilkington, Turnbull, Fitzpatrick, Byrne, Sutherland, Whitaker, Styche, Rowe, Cowan, Sampson, Turner, Dennis.
Dover Athletic: Walker (GK), Magri, Kinnear, Orlu, Modeste, Sterling, Raggett, Bellamy, Parkinson, Pinnock, Crawford, Marsh, Deverdics, Miller, Ofori-Acheampong, Payne.
