Angry Ginge managing his side - YouTube

Salford YouTuber and Twitch streamer Angry Ginge was crowned I’m A Celebrity’s King of the Jungle on Sunday night and broke voting records in the process.

Angry Ginge, real name Morgan Burtwistle, earned 65% of the public vote in the final two, compared with 35% for Celebs Go Dating receptionist Tom Read Wilson, who was the runner-up.

The former Salford City Academy pupil was the bookmakers’ favourite upon entering the Australian jungle three weeks ago, and justified his odds by emphatically claiming the I’m A Celebrity throne for the 2025 series.

Ginge has conquered his biggest fears in the jungle, from handling spiders to eating the toe of a camel, creating a unique and close bond with celebrity campmates Ruby Wax and Lisa Riley.

Ruby’s early departure from camp left a teary-eyed Ginge, as he was devastated to see her go. It was all worth it in the end, though, as Ginge not only got to live out his childhood dream of partaking in the show’s most iconic Bushtucker trial, Celebrity Cyclone, but wrote himself into the Jungle’s history books.

At just twenty-four years of age, twitch streamer Angry Ginge captured the hearts of viewers with his humour, determination and open honesty throughout the series. His win has been met with huge excitement across Salford as supporters flooded social media with congratulations and hometown pride.

In the showdown, he faced off against Tom Read Wilson and Shona McGarty, completing one last gruelling trial before votes were revealed. His final challenge brought him face to face with spiders, snakes and a whole host of jungle critters, but he pushed through with grit that impressed fans nationwide.

Ginge broke down when his victory was announced, thanking voters and saying it felt like a “dream come true.”

The finale reportedly drew more than thirteen million votes, making it one of the most intensely-watched finishes in recent years. Fellow finalist and runner-up Tom Read-Wilson said: “The crown should rest on his head”, claiming he would have felt “incredibly guilty” if he took the throne from Ginge.

With 65% of the vote Ginge received the highest vote share since 2018, when retired football manager Harry Redknapp sat on the throne.

I’m a Celebrity was not Ginge’s only stint on reality television, as he also featured on the Netflix series “Inside” created by YouTube group ‘The Sidemen’, where he and other influencers battled it out over 7 days for a grand prize of £1,000,000.

Before entering the camp, Ginge caught the eyes of mainstream media and ITV bosses after delivering a man-of-the-match performance in Soccer Aid, providing a crucial goal-line clearance.

With victory he became the first person from Salford to win the the hit show.

Former Salford contestants on the popular series had come agonisingly close to bringing the crown home to the city.

Ex-Emmerdale star Adam Thomas famously powered through a record-breaking number of bushtucker trials during his stint in the jungle in 2016, where he finished in third place.

Andy Whyment, the long-serving Coronation Street actor, missed out by the narrowest of margins when he finished runner-up in the 2019 series.

But, after three gruelling weeks in the jungle, Angry Ginge ended the long wait for a Salfordian winner when he captured the I’m A Celebrity crown.
