A new immersive entertainment experience designed in Salford for families will open in Manchester this Summer.

SuperMassive: Festival of Creativity launches this June and promises a ‘vibrant playground of light, movement, and sound’ in Depot Mayfield.

The event, which will boast a rooftop bar by night, has been designed in an old 8,000 sq ft unit Argos unit in Salford Shopping Centre.

At the time Ben Kercher, Co-Founder of SuperMassive, said it was important that a sense of community developed from the organisation’s tenancy.

“We wanted to create something truly unique,” he said. “A space that offers something totally new to Salford, and also gives us the opportunity to refine and develop our ideas and showcase some truly show-stopping art.”

Also in 2024 Ilan Goldman, director of retail for Praxis, which owns Salford Shopping Centre, said securing Supermassive was a “real coup”. He commented: “[The deal] supports the cultural aspirations and ambitions of the city and follows on from the success of our first artist in residence, Chelsea Davies who has gone on to significant acclaim as a result of the exposure of our collaboration.”

“Having brands and businesses like Supermassive as part of our offering is crucial to our aim of diversifying what the centre means to both the city of Salford and the wider Greater Manchester city region,” he said.

“We want to create a space that offers more than just shopping, and can bring real value to the local community, and working with teams like Supermassive is just the beginning of our work to diversify the centre’s offering.”

The event in Depot Mayfield, a 10,000 capacity venue in Manchester’s historic former railway station, uses AI, art, installations, water features and light shows to create an interactive and immersive experience that has been 12 months in the making.

Ben Kercher, Co-Founder of SuperMassive, said: “SuperMassive is a homegrown creative project, developed entirely in Greater Manchester for the people of Greater Manchester.

“This is not a corporate pop-up; it’s a passionate endeavor by local creatives. We’re excited to welcome Mancunians of all ages to join us this summer.”

Supermassive runs from 13 June – 13 September, with tickets on general release from 1st May.

Pre-sale tickets will be available exclusively to sign-ups from 28th April, along with an exclusive 20% discount for June bookings.
