Salford Red Devils

A limited Salford Red Devils squad will travel to the Brick Community Stadium as they face reigning champions Wigan Warriors.

The game this Sunday will see Paul Rowley’s side aim to climb the league table even with their skeleton squad and off-field struggles.

The Red Devils who announced last night (Thursday 27 March) that the staff and players have been paid for the second time this season – however, assured fans that club remains competitive on and off the field.

And with the Red Devils looking to build momentum following their 23-10 victory over the Huddersfield Giants one week prior – the players will hopefully be taking that positive spirit this weekend.

The two clubs are separated by four points and six places, but with the Warriors losing their last two games against the Leeds Rhinos 12-10 and Hull FC 26-22, the fixture serves as a great time for the Salford Red Devils to hopefully score a surprise victory.

However, Paul Rowley has revealed that only 15 players are available, he said: “Harvey Wilson failed a head assessment, so he’s definitely out.

“Without me naming my squad, we’ve got three with copious pain injections. Of those, two are definites and one we’re trying to squeeze through.

“We’ve got a 25-man squad at a cost of just under £1.8 million, seven are injured and we’ve got three other players who aren’t injured but can’t play.”

He continued: “Unfortunately, or fortunately in rugby league, you’ve got honest men who just want to pull a shirt on whether they’re fit or not.

“Lads are putting their hands up to play who probably shouldn’t be in certain aspects.”

“I don’t want a headline to say I’m throwing a welfare issue in, so I’m giving you the facts and you can decide whether it’s a welfare issue.”

Paul Rowley also confirmed that new loanee signing George Hill will be in the squad this weekend, after joining the Red Devils on a month loan from Castleford Tigers, earlier this week.

The Red Devils head coach added: “George Hill will play this week, the loan’s completed, he’s one of the 15.”

And wth Marc Sneyd, Brad Singleton and Tim Lafai all leaving the club in recent weeks, the Red Devils will hope they can pull off the upset against the daunting Warriors.

Salford’s last visit to the Brick Community Stadium ended in a 64-0 loss, so Paul Rowley’s side will hope to improve on that scoreline.

Nonetheless, the Red Devils will kick off against Wigan Warriors at the Brick Community Stadium, with supporters hoping to motivate their squad to victory at 3pm on Sunday 30 March.
