Salford Red Devils star Tim Lafai has confirmed his departure after being granted release from his current contract to return to his family in Australia.

The Samoan international who has spent three years at the Red Devils, was a fan favourite for his performance in centre.

Throughout his time at the club, he was able to gain a lot of support playing sixty-nine times for the Red Devils.

His incredible power and ability to shrug off defenders became a potent weapon for Paul Rowley, as he would go on to score 22 times for the club.

In his debut season with the Reds, Tim Lafai was selected for 2022’s Betfred Super League Dream Team alongside teammates Brodie Croft and Ken Sio – a season where we reached the semi-final stage.

Following the announcement, Lafai shared a message to the Salford fans, he said: “A lot of you know I’m going back home to my family, but before I do, I just wanted to say a huge thank you to the Club, the players, the staff and you supporters.

“We’ve made some great memories over the four years I’ve been here, we’ve had some ups and downs, but you guys stuck around.”

The 33-year-old continued: “You’re going to be hugely missed and a huge part of my life, I’ll always remember you guys.”

“The boys I’ve played alongside present and past, it’s been a rollercoaster of a ride, but one of the best times I’ve had here.

“One of the best playing groups and the staff who always made me feel welcome, put up with my nonsense – it’s been a great time.”

Lafia added: “You supporters; without you, running out here at home you make go up another level when I hear you chanting my name. It’s those little things I’m going to remember for the rest of my life.

“I came here four years ago, took that risk and fell in love with the place instantly and that’s why I stayed with this Club another few years after.”
