book lover Keira Timmis and her book bundles

A 19-year-old book lover from Salford has started an online shop selling ‘blind date with a book’ packages to support herself and help her achieve her dream of a round-the-world trip.

The shop has been set up by Keira Timmis, who has started the business venture when personal circumstances forced her to take a break from her full-time job as a carer.

The ‘blind date with a book’ concept has become increasingly popular in recent years.

It’s fun, niche, and often comes with little sweet treats and knick-knacks – and was the perfect way to combine Keira’s love for reading with a way to make some extra money.

And her role started young when her youngest sibling was born with a disability which meant that they needed around the clock care.

Her business venture helps her not only support her family but also her dream of independence, which would start with an around-the-world trip with her boyfriend.

The young 19-year-old book lover said: “I want to go everywhere, starting in South Africa.”

Inspired by her mother, Tracy Timmis – who has a gift hamper business of a similar nature – Keira decided to sell books, in her words “to still afford life.”

She decided to sell books from her personal collection that she had already read, and books she finds in charity shops.

The gift bundles come with hot drink sachets, sweet treats, pens and highlighters and vinyl stickers. Every bundle is based on the individual book’s genre. The business is Facebook-based and single packages are priced at £4 each or three packages for £10.

Tracy said: “She’s got a love of books so we just thought, why don’t you bring that love to other people?”

More information about the wonderful blind date with book shop can be found via her Facebook page, where guests can buy bundles here.
