Salford Red Devils Women have started their campaign with a strong and determined win against Sheffield Eagles.

The Red Devils Women beat the Eagles 12-4 at home, and were able to secure the win as the team looks to build for the season.

The performance from the team saw them get revenge on the Eagles for their last season defeat in the playoff semi-finals.

Following the game, Anna Dennis was able to receive the Player of the Match after a staggering 24 carries from fullback and scoring the decisive game-winning try.

And with the win secured Dennis said: “I’m proud of the girls. I’ve only been here a short while, but we’ve dug in for each other and I think that’s what matters – it’s something we can build on.”

“It’s a great start to the season – I couldn’t ask for more!”

And with Dennis taking 24 carries throughout the fixture, she spoke on her responsibility as a player in the team.

“I think it is important and is part of working for each other, I take carries, gives others a break, and if I am available to do it, I will do it as it is part of the team.”

Dennis’ game winning try was also her first for the Red Devils, as she continued: “It was a good feeling, but the options are everywhere.

“It happened to open up for me, as it did for lots of other people – but I was so glad to get over it was a good feeling.”

The Red Devils will be looking to improve on last season, as Dennis continued to push oh her aspirations for the rest of the campaign.

“It is a good start, but I have got a lot more to give… I think we have to go upwards from now.”

Assistant Coach, Armani Sharrock also gave her reaction to game, but paid a special tribute to Dennis’ performance.

“She’s just different class. She just understands the game, a play ahead every time,” she said.

“I think today she got that little bit of joy in broken field, and she did a lot of work for our middles, took a lot of carries out of yardage and really made their jobs a lot easier.

“But I just think she was great on both sides of the ball.”
