A new immersive art gallery is set to open in MediaCity that will aim to bring portraits to life through storytelling.
The groundbreaking art gallery will bring portraits to life from May 2, 2025, as they aim to ‘unframe and bring the portrait to life.’
The National Portrait Gallery has granted FRAMELESS’ award-winning team access to its Collection to inspire the creation of Stories – Brought to Life.
It will combine the highest quality digital projection, Hollywood-style visual effects and the latest audio technology with music and creative narratives to tell the stories behind some of the Gallery’s best-loved portraits.
The experience will be displayed at MediaCityUK, Salford in May before heading on a national and international tour.

As throughout the immersive experience, stories of icons from history to contemporary trailblazers, including Queen Elizabeth I, Nelson Mandela, William Shakespeare, as well as Grayson Perry, Malala Yousafzai and Emmeline Pankhurst will be brought to life.
The portraits will aim to bring together many different cultures, as they aim to tell the history of Britain through art.
Nathan Blades, who works at Media City said this: “The national portrait gallery is the latest in a whole line of immersive experiences.
“Previously there has been a Van Gogh exhibition also Banksy, and now this new immersive art experience. It’s interesting they get to bring a regular immersive art experience every couple of years.”
Developments for the art gallery have been going for a month now in MediaCityUK with a large white tent will covering The Piazza – with the immersive experience set to open to the public this May.
Ticket prices are £21.95 for an adult, £11.95 for a child (age 5-15) and £17.95 for a family of four.
Infants and essential companions and carers will also be allowed to enter for free.
