Salford Red Devils will be travelling to Catalans Dragons in the Betfred Challenge Cup quarter-finals following Monday nights draw.
The Red Devils will be have to prepare for a trip to France in the Challenge Cup in April, after they advanced in the competition last weekend in a tight battle against Bradford Bulls winning 26-16.
The Red Devils were without Marc Sneyd after his move to Warrington Wolves, as they were able to pull through despite being threatened with a cup upset.
However, after winning the Round Four fixture, Salford were put in the draw which was conducted on BBC Radio 5Live’s Rugby League coverage with former winners, Adrian Morley and Jon Wilkin pulling the numbers.
The Dragons were drawn first of the two teams and will be the home side in the next round.
The French side had beaten Championship sides’ Halifax Panthers and Featherstone Rovers in Round’s three and four respectively to book their place in the quarterfinals.
However, this cup fixture will be the first of two meetings with Steve McNamara’s side in April, as the Reds return to Perpignan for a Rivals Round clash later that month.
Salford Red Devils will be travelling to France hoping to go for Challenge Cup glory against the French side who were the first side outside of England to make the competition final in 2007.
In the previous year’s competition, the Red Devils had a remarkable journey to the Challenge Cup Final in 2020, with a Golden Point victory over Catalans Dragons in the quarterfinals before overcoming Warrington Wolves in the semi-finals.
The club will be hoping for a similar fate as they meet the Dragons in the same round this year.
Historically, the Red Devils have a rich legacy in the Challenge Cup, having won the competition during the 1937-38 season, as well as reaching the final in 1969 and 2020.
Although the club have been facing recent turmoil and controversy, they will be looking to continue the cup run to entertain the fans and lift the club mood.
The Challenge Cup quarter-finals fixture will be on the weekend of April 4-6 this year, with confirmed details and ticketing information to be released soon.
However, as they await their fixture in the Challenge Cup last eight, they will have to return their attention to the Super League where they will play Huddersfield Giants on Thursday 20 March.
