Salford residents invited to explore Indian migration throughout the Second World War at the Imperial War Museum

Salford residents are being welcomed to a major new art commission that will explore Indian migration throughout the Second World War. 

The exhibition named Chila Welcomes You, will allow guests to see memories of artist Burman’s childhood, while weaving it together with broader themes of migration and the Indian independence movement, until 31st August 2025.

Salford Red Devils to face Catalans Dragons in the Challenge Cup quarter-finals

The Red Devils will be have to prepare for a trip to France in the Challenge Cup in April, after they advanced in the competition last weekend in a tight battle against Bradford Bulls winning 26-16.

Salford Red Devils will be travelling to France hoping to go for Challenge Cup glory against the French side who were the first side outside of England to make the competition final in 2007. The Dragons were drawn first of the two teams and will be the home side in the next round.

The Challenge Cup quarter-finals fixture will be on the weekend of April 4-6 this year, with confirmed details and ticketing information to be released soon.

Investigation find ‘nicotine free’ vapes are falsely advertised

An investigation led by the National Trading Standards have found that one in every eight ‘nicotine free vapes’ contained nicotine.

The National Trading Standards (NTS), Salford City Council’s Trading Standards team alongside Heart of the Southwest Trading Standards Service and the Trading Standards team in Berkshire, have worked collaboratively to test ‘nicotine free’ vapes on sale to UK consumers.

Jamie Laing’s five-day charity ultra-marathon to finish in MediaCity

The broadcaster and former Made In Chelsea star set off this morning (Monday 17 March) and will take on a 150-plus mile run from London to Salford to raise money for Comic Relief.

The 36-year will attempt to run five marathons in five consecutive days, leaving the BBC headquarters in London and reaching Media City in Salford on Friday March 21.

Katie Norris comes to the Lowry for her solo show ‘Farm Fatale’

The Award-winning comedian, actress and singer, who was well-loved at the 2024 Edinburgh Festival Fringe, is debuting her solo show at the Lowry tonight! Being apart of Norris & Parker featured her amongst the Guardian’s top comedy picks as well as winning the 2023 Musical Comedy Awards.

Salford Arts Theatre to host production written by 2024 winner of The Shelagh Delaney New Writing Award

Salford Arts Theatre will be hosting a production written by the winner of The Shelagh Delaney New Writing Award 2024.

The production of Rayla Clay (and the following day) by Drayla Kasheen will be showing between April 3 and 5.

Salford-born Shelagh Delaney was a strong female postwar voice who produced plays such as Taste of Honey, tackling early feminism and working class movements. She also won a Bafta for Best British Screenplay.

Exhibition honouring Harold Riley will be on display at Salford Museum until the end of April

An exhibition of some of the most important artworks by artist Harold Riley will on display in Salford until the end of April.

The exhibition, Every Line is Me, will be displayed at the Salford Museum and Art Gallery until Sunday 27 April celebrating one of Salford’s most notable artists.

Sadly, Harold Riley died in 2023 aged 88 and throughout his life his work was internationally recognised – and his artwork is intrinsically tied to the cultural legacy of Salford.
