A building that hosts Irlam Carpet Warehouse could be flattened to make way for an apartment building on Liverpool Road.
One one-bedroom and three two-bedroom apartments will be created in the new building.
The site at 67 Liverpool Road will have space for two retail units on the ground floor, with space for seven dedicated car parking spaces, a cycle storage facility and waste disposal areas.
The proposal is currently under consultation, with feedback invited from the public and local businesses. The outline application will go before planning authorities in the coming weeks.
The owners of the Carpet Warehouse stated that the business is no longer viable and it will be run to a close before the redevelopment of the site.
They add that plans have been developed to minimise the impact of the new building on exiting houses and a nearby Tesco.
Vehicle access will be removed from Liverpool Road and relocated to a new car park area to the south of the site off the existing access to Boat Lane.
