Businessman and philanthropist, Sir Norman Stoller, has praised the ‘amazing’ veteran care village where a wing is named in his honour.
The visit from Sir Stoller came following his trust, The Stoller Charitable Trust, donated £4 million towards the redevelopment of Broughton House Care Village – a part of the £12.5 million renovations made in 2022.
Following its redevelopment, it is now a complex with a 64-bed care home, including two 16-bed households dedicated to veterans with dementia, as well as independent living apartments.
The home also has an Armed Forces Support Hub, which provides support for elderly and working age veterans living in the community.
Following the generosity shown by The Stoller Foundation, a wing of Broughton House Care Village was named after him – The Stoller Wing, offering a variety of facilities for residents in the care village.
The services include a gym, a hairdressing and barber’s salon, and a veterans’ mess where events are held, and entertainers perform.
The ground floor also pays homage to Broughton House’s rich history with a museum brimming with fascinating stories of former residents, rare war medals and historic memorabilia.
The history of the Broughton House Veteran Care Village stretches back to 1916, caring for more than 8,000 veterans since it opened its doors to the ex-service community.
During Sir Norman Stoller’s visit, he was shown around the building with Stephen Lowe, the charitable trust’s project manager – with the pair being led by the care home’s chief executive Karen Miller, trustee and former RAF fighter pilot Peter Curtis, and head of nursing Lore Popa.
Following his visit, Karen Miller said: “The Stoller Charitable Trust’s generosity was instrumental in helping our charity realise our vision to create the wonderful facilities we have today.
“The trust has ensured we can continue to care and support veterans and their families for many years to come.”
She continued: “Sir Norman was delighted to see the new Broughton House, and he was especially pleased to see first-hand the modern, comfortable, and caring environment.
“He commented on how amazing the home is, and was pleased to see how his financial support has positively impacted the lives of so many veterans and their families and will continue to do so. We are forever grateful.”
