Salford City have extended their winless run losing 4-0 at home to Chesterfield after going down to 10-men.

The Ammies were walking into this game without a win in five games, hoping to turn their form around and push up the league table.

However, after a 24th minute sending off for Hakeeb Adelakun, following an off the ball altercation with left-back Jack Sparkes, it led to the forward being dismissed.

The early sending off forced a change in Salford’s approach with over an hour remaining, and it seemed that it would be a long night for Karl Robinsons’ side.

And although the Ammies started brightly, the early sending off paid its price – as they went two goals down in the first half.

In the 40th minute of the game, Chesterfield were able to get their first of the evening, Jack Sparkes swung a ball inward to Liam Mandeville who volleyed it into the net.

And to make matters worse for Karl Robinsons’ side, the lead was extended three minutes later.

Salford failed to clear a cross into the box that allowed Bim Pepple to steal the ball and slot the ball in from close range – getting his goal after being denied multiple times throughout the match.

And with the Ammies ending the first half two goals down, it would be a mountain to climb to claw themselves back into the game.

However, after the break things worsened for the Ammies, as The Spireites were able to dispossess Salford once again with Ollie Banks driving the ball forward.

Banks was able to get the ball across the box to an awaiting Armando Dobra, who was able to shrug off the defender to fire the ball past Jones for the third.

Three goals down, the Ammies would have needed a miracle to pull themselves back into the game with half an hour left, however they were being encouraged with a section of supporters chanting: “We’re going to win 4-3.”

However, much to the disappointment of Salford supporters as the home side failed to test the Chesterfield defence for the remainder of the match.

And with the game petering out, the scoreline was once again extended with Chesterfield grabbing their fourth, with Mandeville scoring a brace minutes before the final whistle.

The 94h minute goal was scored by the Chesterfield forward who was able to squeeze the ball into the net from a tight angle, much to the joy of the travelling away fans.

And with referee Darren Drysdale called an end to the contest after seven additional minutes, the Ammies finished the game without a win in six games.

Salford City remain 11th in the table, however, only sit two points ahead of Chesterfield who have a game in hand – and with the distance from the promotion places continuing to grow.

The Ammies will have to turn their attention to the weekend now, where they will be looking to redeem themselves against Grimsby Town at the Peninsula Stadium.
