Swinton Lions delivered a commanding performance in front of a strong traveling support, securing a dominant victory over Newcastle Thunder.

The Lions were able to get back-to-back league victories and have moved into second place following a 6-48 victory.

Despite the dominant victory, Newcastle Thunder was able to start well forcing a goal-line drop-out early, and despite the bright start for the home side, Swinton soon took control.

Gav Rodden opened the scoring on 11 minutes after a slick short pass from Alfie Sinclair, with Dan Abram converting.

And when Thunder’s Alex Taylor was sin-binned, the Lions capitalised, Ellis Anderson crossed on the left, followed by Harry Higham’s try on the right, though neither were converted.

Thunder responded as Alex Donaghy sliced through to score under the posts, converting his own try. However just before halftime, Tommy Porter found a gap to restore Swinton’s cushion, with Abram adding the extras.

The second half saw Swinton run riot. Rodden grabbed his second four minutes in, before Jordan Praga shrugged off multiple defenders to score moments later-both converted by Abram.

Rodden sealed his hat-trick on 53 minutes, chasing a Praga kick, before Adam Sidlow powered over just after the hour, again converted.

The final flourish came two minutes from time when Praga’s kick was chased down by Anderson, Abram missed the kick, but it did little to dampen Swinton’s emphatic win.

And following the dominant victory, Swinton Lions will be turning their attention to Dewsbury on Sunday 23 March.

The Lions will be looking to continue their run of form, as they reach second in the league in their 2025 campaign.

And with the Lions looking to put themselves back into the Championship, they have set themselves up with a solid start to the campaign.
