Swinton Lions will travel further north this weekend as they prepare for their second round fixture against Newcastle Thunder.
The side in Newcastle will be hosting the Swinton Lions at the Gateshead International Stadium with both teams looking to get some early points in the season.
The fixture on Sunday 9 March will kick off at 5pm, with the Lions hoping to capture back-to-back victories and start the season dominating the division.
The Lions are coming off the back of a win against Whitehaven Warriors, as they look to return to the Championship after relegation last season.
However, with the drive further north the Lions will be coming up against a Newcastle Thunder side who have been focusing on strengthening their defense and overall strategy in the off-season.
And the Thunder will be approaching the tie with confidence, with the two sides meeting four times over the last nine years – with Newcastle securing three victories including a 25-19 win on July 30, 2023, while the Lions has one win in the head-to-head.
Both teams are eager to secure a victory in this early season encounter, and Newcastle will aim to capitalise on the home advantage.
Whilst Swinton Lions will be determined to rebound from their recent setbacks and establish themselves as strong contenders in League One.
Fans can anticipate a competitive and thrilling match as the two sides vie for early momentum early in the League One season – with a confident win being enough to push them further up the league table.
