A Salford community volunteer is celebrating his 50th birthday with a special litter picking event, keeping Salford clean.

The litter pick event will be held for the beloved volunteer and trustee at Langworthy Cornerstone , Andy Salter.

Andy is a dedicated member of the community who aims to keep Salford streets clean. He turned 50 on 1 March and in honour of his birthday, both he and the community centre are hosting a litter pick, aiming to collect 50 bags of litter.

Andy also volunteers for both Love Your Planet SALFORD and Clean Up Salford and works tirelessly at keeping his community clean and tidy.

Known as a litter picking legend, he selflessly attends and hosts events in the city aiming to keep the environment clean and safe.

Both organisations regularly host community clean up events and hold those creating messes with litter accountable, spreading their important message; to look after the environment and keep Salford safe.

Ian Welch is a volunteer coordinator for Langworthy Cornerstone and hopes that this event can encourage more people to get out and support their community.

Ian said: “The litter picks can develop friendships by meeting different people and its also looking after the local environment.”

He added: “Andy volunteers really hard keeping the community clean.”

The Salford volunteer previously hosted a birthday litter pick on Saturday, where Andy was crowned “Litter Picking King” and given “a blinged up picker, golden crown and 50th Birthday badge”.

The pick resulted in 56 bags of litter collected in total, with an even bigger turnout expected Wednesday, the group are aiming for even more.

The group are already expecting a turnout of between 20 and 30 people but would be thrilled to receive more participants.

The litter pick will start at 1pm on Wednesday 5 March, with everyone meeting at the Langworthy Cornerstone building (451 Liverpool St, Salford M6 5QQ).
