Salford’s Deputy Mayor visits Great Places new £4.3m housing development in Worsley

A new housing development designed specifically to meet the requirements of adults with learning disabilities has been completed in Worsley.

The £4.3 million scheme is made up of two and three-bed homes for shared ownership, along with a neighbouring supported housing development of 12 one and two-bed self-contained apartments.

The site was acquired from Salford City Council and the scheme has been funded through Homes England, Salford City Council and Great Places.

The housing in Worsley will be owned and managed by Great Places Housing Group, who provide a wide range of services in 26,000 homes across the Northwest.

The new homes have been designed to “strike a balance between the ability to provide bespoke care support for each resident, whilst promoting independent living.”

Nick Gornall, Development Director at Great Places, said: “Our new development in Worsley is a great example of what can be achieved through partnership.

“The new homes will promote independent living, with the ability to adapt care provision to suit customer needs, future-proofing the building for its residents,” he continued.

He also said that the homes will “enable people to live closer to friends and family in new homes designed to meet their support needs.”

Following completion Salford City Council’s Deputy Mayor and Lead Member for Housing and Anti-Poverty, Councillor Tracy Kelly attended the completion event at the disability housing development in Worsley.

Councillor Tracy Kelly, Statutory Deputy City Mayor and Lead Member for Housing and Anti-Poverty at Salford City Council, described the completion as “fantastic news”.

Cllr Kelly continued: “Essentially, these new homes mean that Salford people who had to be placed outside of the city can now move back home again, closer to their family and friends.

“I’m delighted that we have been able to provide these important homes that will make a huge difference to local families.”

The new housing development has also seen Salford City Council commission Salford Cares to provide the care and support to the housing scheme.

Following this decision Jillian Lockett, Head of Services at Salford Cares, said: “Salford Cares is delighted to be the chosen provider for this fabulous scheme, and we’d like to thank Salford Council for the opportunity.

“The service model here is an example of an excellent working partnership between Great Places, Salford Council and Salford Cares, through which we can enable residents to live in high-quality apartments with on-site support and help them become a part of community life in Salford.”

Jillian continued: “We’re incredibly proud to be a part of this project and to be supporting individuals to achieve positive outcomes – all of us are very excited to see what the future holds for them.”
