LOWRY 360 opens on May 3 and headlines a celebratory anniversary programme designed to captivate audiences with bold and adventurous productions.

A significant highlight of the programme is Gods of Salford, a theatrical reimagining of Greek myths through the lens of Salford’s working-class spirit.

This production, developed by Not Too Tame Theatre, features a cast and crew of 25 young people from Salford, many of whom have faced significant challenges in their lives. The show aims to provide them with valuable industry experience while offering audiences a fresh and energetic performance.

Salford mayor Paul Dennett highlighted the significance of the Lowry in shaping the city’s future.

He said: “Lowry is a force for good in Salford and was a vital catalyst for the regeneration of the area. It is a place that is first and foremost for the people.

“It’s wonderful to reflect on the past 25 years – Lowry has not only brought world-class arts and theatre to the Quays but has also been instrumental in fostering community engagement, supporting young people, and strengthening our creative economy.

“It supports over 600 jobs, including 576 full-time jobs in the North West and 649 across the UK, demonstrating its critical role in the regional and national economy. Happy birthday Lowry, I look forward supporting your next exciting chapter!”

Coun Hannah Robinson-Smith, Lead Member for Culture, Heritage, Equalities, Sports and Leisure, echoed this sentiment: “Lowry is a cultural institution that has had an immense positive influence on communities across Salford.

“It has provided access to arts and culture for thousands of residents and continues to inspire new generations with its diverse and exciting programme.”

Beyond theatre, The Lowry’s anniversary celebrations include world-class exhibitions and performances. Families will be drawn to a free Quentin Blake exhibition showcasing illustrations of beloved characters like the BFG and Matilda, alongside a special portrait of L.S. Lowry.

French artist Camille Walala will transform the Promenade Gallery with a large-scale mural inspired by Salford’s cityscape. A landmark lecture by Manchester-born writer Jeanette Winterson will reflect on L.S. Lowry’s ability to capture the lives of working men and women, connecting art to local history.

Other highlights include a new production of James Graham’s Dear England with an updated ending following the 2024 European Championships, and an evening of dance and poetry presented by renowned Kathak performer Aakash Odedra, featuring live music from Manchester Camerata.

Julia said: “Over the past 25 years, The Lowry has become the most visited cultural attraction in Manchester, and the heart of one of Europe’s most successful regeneration projects. We are celebrating this journey with a spectacular programme that showcases the very best of art and theatre. 2025 promises to be our biggest and best year yet.”
