A festival is set to be hosted in Salford this month that will aim to promote a greener and more sustainable city to be hosted.

The festival Go Green Salford will be hosted in the city from Monday 10 March and will run in Salford until Saturday 22 March.

The Go Green Salford festival has been set up by the University of Salford and will feature numerous events to help educate the community on sustainability and green living, while having fun.

Guests of the festival will be able to participate in a carbon literacy online training; this will give you a basic two session course on the basics of the science on climate change.

Residents will also be invited to a bike maintenance session, that will allow residents to get bikes fully serviced to keep it up to the best condition it can be.

The service will be available from 11 March between 2pm and 4pm at the University of Salford Engineering and Environment Building.

And those with an interest in clothing and fashion will be able to attend a Swap Not Shop meet on the Tuesday 18 March.

The event that will run from 10am to 4pm, will allow guests to take a piece of clothing or multiple pieces, and swap with other people to avoid throwing them away.

Ahead of the sustainability festival Bec Bennett, 45, associate Director of Sustainability at the University of Salford said: “The Go Green Salford is an annual program that we have run for a number of years at the university.

“The aim is to promote the importance of sustainability, highlight the University of Salford’s initiatives, and inspire positive action amongst our students, staff and the local community.

“We’ve got carbon literacy training, which will help educate the staff and students who have got registered with those in terms of the climate crisis and what they can do to act and importantly.”

“We’ve also got some nature literacy training, so very similar, but basically, again, an understanding of biodiversity,” Bec continued.

There are multiple other events such as spin wheels, guided bike rides, nature literacy training, bird and bat walks, and mental health walks.

There is more to be done however, creating a new greener and more sustainable Salford will start at home for Salfordians.

“There’s quite a lot that we can do at home, definitely. So, you can think about the energy consumption, so not only will that benefit the environment, but also benefit us in terms of our finances.”
