Salford City suffered late heartbreak as their valiant efforts were undone by Bradford City’s last-minute madness.

Salford City took the lead in the 30th minute through Frankie Okoronkwo. Bradley Halliday levelled the play midway through the second half with a low-driven half-volley before Michael Mellon secured all three points with the decisive winner in injury time.

Bradford started brightly and fashioned the better chances in a frantic opening to the match with Tommy Leigh striking the crossbar from range before Jamie Jones heroically denied Tyler Walker to keep the scores level.

But the Ammies settled into the game following early pressure from The Bantams and took the lead on the half-hour mark through a wonderful moment of composure from Okoronkwo who broke the offside trap and slotted the ball high into the top right corner.

Karl Robinson’s men managed the match thoroughly, making the game a scrappy affair and took advantage of the pauses in play due to several Bradford injuries.

Salford City took their lead into the second-half in what was turning into a frosty and feisty affair.

The home side showed flashes of quality going forward through the likes of Okoronkwo and Hakeeb Adelakun, in which they should have found a second through a plethora of chances.

A beautiful passage of play between starman Okoronkwo and fellow forward Rosaire Longelo saw the striker force visiting keeper Sam Walker into a smart save – an excellent opportunity unpunished and one they lived to regret.

Notably, the return of impressive youngster, Kelly N’mai was welcomed following a lengthy period on the sidelines.

The visitors found their equalizer through right back Halliday who struck a thunderous low driven volley. The strike sent the away end into raptures and raised the confidence of the high-flying visitors.

With the game looking like it would end in a draw, Calum Kavannagh found Michael Mellon down the right wing. The forward slotted past Jamie Jones and handed The Bantams another 3 points.

It is three defeats on the bounce for Karl Robinson’s men as the gap stretches to 7 points for The Ammie’s play off push.

Their efforts deserved more than the result today but unfortunately it was not enough. Salford City travel down to Swindon Town next on Tuesday 4th March.
