Mediacity podcast From press release

A new podcast has launched in MediaCity showcasing opportunities for people studying and living in the area.

The This is MediaCity show is hosted by Stephen Chapman, who is the creative director and founder of 39 Pictures, an award-winning video and film content studio.

It’s base is just above a newly-launched £600,000 content creation studio available to hire.

The weekly podcast will cover a range of topics, highlighting past and present talents within MediaCityUK.

This week’s episode issued today is a chat with Lucy Meacock, best known as the long-standing former ITV NW regional news presenter.

The first episode, launched on February 14, was a conversation with legendary TV producer Peter Salmon. Episode two was a conversation with award-winning director and founder of Manchester-based Immersiveye, Steve Moyler.

Chapman said: “There’s going to be so many different topics we’re going to talk about because there are so many brilliant individuals and companies and places based here.

“You’re not going to know what’s happening from episode to episode.”

The podcast is being produced on behalf of MediaCity by a team of recent Salford University graduates.

Chapman said: “I don’t want them working on the podcast for very long, I want them to be able to network, to showcase their skills to all of the brilliant guests that come in, work with 39 Pictures, get trained up and then go out into the big, wide world.”

He added: “I want people to start feeling more proud of this place. I want people who are applying, say to the University of Salford, to think ‘actually there’s a way in there, and the doors feel more open.”

One of the podcast producers James Young, who graduated from Salford University in 2024, highlighted the importance of graduates having a pathway into new jobs after completing their degrees.

He said: “There needs to be more of a sense of community.”

The podcast will aim to demonstrate to people, in detail, how MediaCityUK operates, the opportunities it offers and just how big it is.

James continued: “I just thought it was maybe BBC, ITV, a couple of other people that were based here – but when you actually start to get into it properly, you see all these interesting startups, in places that you never knew were here.”

Another member of the production team Meg Bond, who graduated from University of Salford in 2023, said: “I think the whole purpose of this project is just opportunity for everybody to see what is really here and what we’re all about. Media City is just a creative space, and it’s about just going and doing.

“We were really delving into what we want this podcast to summarise and there’s no easier way than just saying, This is Media City.”

Episodes of ‘This is MediaCity’ will be posted every Friday on YouTube, Spotify and Apple Podcasts.
