A boy from Eccles who went into cardiac arrest following an incident in Manchester city centre is continuing his recovery.
Blake Speirs, 14, was taken to hospital in a critical condition after an altercation involving him and his friend on February 16 in Market Street.
Passers-by Nicole Bodgers and her partner Brad were on their way back to the car when they saw Blake, and along with another shopper, helped administer CPR.
Nicole said: “It was one of the scariest moments of our lives, but knowing that Blake is alive and is walking and talking after his heart had stopped twice is amazing.
“We did what any decent person would do until we could get Blake the proper care he needed. It’s a reminder that whilst the easy thing to do would be to walk past the situation and not get involved, you may just be able to save someone’s life.”
Blake’s mother Tray Speirs described the couple as being “sent to save him”.
An arrest was made on February 20 in relation to the incident.
Detective Inspector Mark Astbury, of GMP’s City Centre Criminal Investigation Department, said: “We hope the victim can continue his recovery.
“Our work doesn’t stop here, we are continuing to investigate this incident and information from the public plays an incredibly important role in our investigations and I ask that the community keep talking to us and keep sharing their concerns with us so our teams can act.”
Blake has since set up a GoFundMe, writing how he knows his mum needs help visiting him in hospital. His appeal says: “Every little helps – thanks – will be used for travelling back and forth and food.”
