Salford Red Devils will begin their Super League season against St. Helens in a ‘challenging and physical battle’ this weekend.
The Red Devils will be travelling away to the Totally Wicked Stadium, and will be anticipating a tough opening fixture against the 17-time champions
Salford will be hoping to compete in the fixture, despite the announcement yesterday that they will have to play with a restricted lineup.
The restrictions remain in place after the club was taken over on Friday 7 February – and will hope to be resolved by the February 22.
The club shared yesterday evening (February 13): “Salford Red Devils can confirm that the club will still be under the restrictions of the sustainability cap for this weekend’s opening Betfred Super League fixture against St Helens on Saturday 15 February.
“As such, the club will be fielding a team featuring predominantly reserve squad players this weekend.”
The club proceeded to share the squad list for the Round One fixture – with Marc Sneyd, Nene Macdonald, and Ryan Brierley unavailable for selection.

Nonetheless, the fans should expect the club to battle through this – and take confidence into the meeting, winning two of their last three games against St. Helen’s.
However, the Red Devils will have to be aware of the high standards that the Saints will bring to the fixture, as head coach Paul Rowley continued.
“For so long they’ve been the benchmark, we’ve all aspired to be St Helens.
“Wigan – throw Warrington in the mix – Catalans even, they’ve been consistent performers for a long period of time both on the field and off the field.”
He continued: “That’s no coincidence, they’re well-run businesses that have a good foundation of youth within the club, so St Helens will never be far away from success.
“We expect to see them at their best, focused, and motivated to fill that trophy cabinet back up.”
Rowley continued: “We expect the best of St Helens, which is always an aggressive team and one that likes to play on the front foot.
“It’s going to be very challenging and you’ve got to be ready for a physical battle, and be committed in that area.”
The fixture will kick off at 17:30pm – and both sides will be hoping to kick off their league campaign with a victory.
