Salford lecturer describes how the closure of the city’s magistrates’ court in 2011 inspired his new book

A new book exploring the significance of open justice in the court system has been published by a Salford University academic.

Director of Journalism at University of Salford, Dr Richard Jones has released the book ‘Reporting the Courts’ examines the closure of the courts. Salford Magistrates’ Courts closed after 171 years and Dr Jones examines how the closure has impacted the quality of local media.

Salford musicians launch ‘vibrant’ percussive children’s culture workshop

A duo of Salford musicians have launched a new creative culture workshop, educating children about the world through the use of percussion instruments and Latin music.

The program will focus on empowering children ages 8-9 through music, creating a vibrant space for children to learn about culture, what music can communicate and the art of autonomy and expression.

Salford creatives entitled to apply for up to £500 in funding from new scheme

A “really positive” new Salford fund is being offered to independent creatives to access further professional development.

Salford City Council and Salford CVS are offering £250-£500 to creatives who wish to evolve their career professionally. The Salford fund will cover costs such as materials, equipment, training course fees, travel costs, child/dependent care costs and professional fees that are associated with extended creative development.

Man to complete a daring 160ft bungee jump for homeless charity at Salford Quays

A man is aiming to raise money for a homeless charity through a daring bungee jump in Salford.

The jump will be completed by Gavin Vitler, who is taking on the 160ft daredevil jump at Salford Quays Watersports Centre. It will take place on Saturday 26 April, with money being raised for Petrus Homeless Charity. Gavin has previously raised £1,090 for Bowlee Community Organisation at Christmas by doing an advent calendar of semi-nude selfies.

Abandoned Swinton pub to be made into takeaway and barbershop

A pub in Swinton is set to be redeveloped into a chip shop takeaway and a barbershop.

Salford City Council have granted planning permission for the permanently closed Weavers Arms to be redeveloped into a chip shop and a barber shop. The pub has a chequered recent history.

Salford man police issue sentenced

Police issue statement over Salford man missing in Tenerife

Police have issued a statement regarding a Salford man last seen on CCTV footage in Tenerife on Monday 10 February. 

It is understood that Liam Hannigan, 34, hasn’t been in touch with his friends or family since last Friday (February 7). Family members of Liam have shared that are flew out this morning (Tuesday 11 February)  to join in the search for him.

Salford Creative Mixer to be hosted at Islington Mill

The event will take place on the 27th February between 6-9p.m.

The mixer will be a space for Salford wide creatives to connect, build networks & discover opportunities. Food and Drink will be served alongside laid back intros, chats and connections. All creators, makers, artists and cultural organisations are invited to be part of this and help to shape the process. Salford City B’s beat Chesterfield Reserves 2-1 in a tightly contested affair

Two early goals from the Ammies B’s meant they came away with the win after a late scare from Cheltenham Reserves

Goals came from striker Will Wright and midfielder Jai Curran-Nicholls and a late consolation goal from Chesterfield midfielder Liam Mandeville. The Ammies hung on to win the game after a late charge for an equalizer from Chesterfield.

Bringing romance to Salford: Things to do for Valentine’s Day

With February 14 quickly approaching, residents can enjoy a wide variety of events in Salford for Valentine’s Day this week.

In the run up to Valentine’s Day, Friends of Buile Hill Park  is celebrating at The Pavilion, with games of bingo from 12.30pm on Wednesday February 12. The group is made up of volunteers working alongside Salford City Council to create a welcoming park for all to visit.

Salford Red Devils newly appointed CEO shares excitement for the clubs future

The Salford Red Devils newly appointed CEO has shared the clubs new vision and plans for an ‘exciting future’. 

Following last week’s takeover, which saw a consortium led by businessman Dario Berta, CEO of Matanel, an investment bank that specialises in real estate investment, have completed a full 100% purchase of the club which has been approved by the CBS. The new financial takeover, has seen all current club debt cleared, as the new owners plan and prepare for future growth of the club.

LIVES at the Lowry showcases humanity pitted against the consequences of industry

LIVES is a dynamic multimedia drama grappling with the themes of love, greed, loss and accountability; a courtroom drama wherein the audience are treated as the jury.

The show begun, and the lights dim revealing a spotlight as a woman adorned in fur walks slowly down the steps between the audience. She steps upon a box in centre stage, delivering a haunting monologue about motherhood before ending with the declaration of having to ‘kill them all’.

Karl Robinson praises Salford City and supporters in 2-0 win over Tranmere Rovers

Salford City’s Head Coach Karl Robinson praise his team’s performance following a 2-0 victory over Tranmere Rovers. 

The win for the Ammies ended their winless run, and they were able to bounce back into the play off positions beating the travelling side who sat 22nd. Robinson said: “I thought we were the better team still; I thought we created the better chances, missing two or three.”

“You’d argue after our two or three, but they missed they’d close with one that come across the goal which he probably should have done better. But I’m over the moon, I’m really happy.”

What’s on in Salford during the February half term

As half-term approaches and is set to start in Salford from Monday 17 February there will be a range of activities across the city to entertain everyone.

As the school break begins next week, there will be a variety of opportunities to participate in, including creative and affordable activities for as low as £1 per child. Throughout the half-term Salford Museum & Art Gallery are offering a range of creative activities, and participants can get involved with art and painting sessions.  Those who attend will also be able enjoy a lucky dip and create a Victorian peg doll, and guests will be able to enjoy the sessions on Tuesday 18 February.

Hakeeb Adelakun makes League Two Team of the Week after recent goalscoring form

Salford forward Hakeeb Adelakun has been listed on the Sky Bet League Two Team of the Week.

This comes after his match-winning brace in Saturday’s 2-0 win over Tranmere. Adelakun helped fire the Ammies into seventh, back in to the playoff places. The striker, who signed in the summer of 2024 on a free transfer from Lincoln City, is in great form, having scored four goals in four matches.

A social club in Salford is set to host multiple nights full of entertainment that will include drag bingo, music and games this month.

The Weaste & Seedley Social Club will open its doors on Saturday 15th February at 7pm. They will host two events which will offer music, games, and romance-fuelled entertainment. The entertainment from the social club will then continue a month later, on Saturday 15 March, as Drag Bingo Night take over the venue.
