Jamie Jones signs for Salford City goalkeeper

Salford City’s goalkeeper Jamie Jones impressive clean sheet against Tranmere Rovers has earned him a spot on Sky Bet League Two team of the week.

The Ammies star shot stopper will join his fellow teammate, Hakeeb Adelakun in the League Two team of the week following the fixture against Tranmere on the weekend.

The 35-year-old made a number of saves to thwart the visitors and provide Adelakun with the platform to score the winning goals.

During the game, he made a notable save after Josh Davison came through on goal in the closing moments of the game.

The Salford goalkeeper was able to get down low to stop a powerful shot to the left-hand corner to secure his clean sheet.

Following the impressive goalkeeping display at the Peninsula Stadium, his manager Karl Robinson was happy to share his praise.

Robinson said: “I think he was one of our better players today (Saturday 8 February), I’m really really pleased for him.”

The former Middlesbrough keeper has kept five clean sheets in 20 matches, and has only conceded 24 goals against the 68 shots he has faced so far.

The keeper has made himself an integral part of the Ammies promotion charge, and has been once again showing his talents in the net.

After a scrappy game against Bromley last Tuesday, a clean sheet against Tranmere, alongside four big saves during the game will be a confidence boost moving on into the season.

As Jones spoke following the victory, as he said: “The big thing is we’re back on that winning streak, it’s been a while since we had a win so it was good.

“We’re not far away so if we keep doing the right things it will come, we’ve done that today, we rode our luck a few times and made a few good saves but we know we’re not far away and it’s good to get three points.”

And with the keeper in form and earning a place in the team of the week, fans will be hoping that they will see another clean sheet when they face AFC Wimbledon this weekend.

A clean sheet for the Ammies and Jones, will continue their push for promotion and hold a strong position in the playoffs.
