Salford rugby youth team benefit from police funding - Salford Police

A rugby league youth team have recently received funding from the police to help purchase dozens of new rugby balls and equipment. 

Cadishead Rhinos Rugby League Club received the funding from the Greater Manchester High Sheriff’s Police Trust. 

The trust supports the needs of local clubs and projects in our communities by providing funds to charities and organisations.

Cadishead Rhinos ARLFC were successful in their bid for funding through the High Sheriff’s Police Trust. 

The trust was established in 1994 to promote a safer and better quality of life for people through crime prevention initiatives and community organisations to make Greater Manchester a better place to live and work.

The police trust visited the club site on Lord’s Street, Cadishead to see the club’s insightful work with local youths and to learn how the funding will support the community. 

Police Community Support Officer Nigel Kirk from our Salford district said: “It’s important that community groups like Cadishead Rhinos Rugby League Club get the funding they need to support our younger generation in attending sports events and activities,

“I’m proud we could make this commitment to the club and the young people of Salford.”

Over the last 30 years, the High Sheriff’s Police Trust has contributed to hundreds of local projects, investing over £10,850,000 into crime reduction and community safety projects across Greater Manchester.

The aim of the trust is to improve the quality of life of all communities in the Greater Manchester area, with vulnerable groups and victims of crime being priorities.

During the visit, officer’s met with the club chairman, and got to meet some of the players who are benefitting from this funding, including the rugby youth team.

Following the visit, Cadishead Rugby League Secretary, Paul Elliott said: “The club where absolutely delighted with the grant we received from Greater Manchester Police.
“The equipment we bought will help us to continue delivering high quality sports sessions to our members and other groups within our local community.
“It will also ensure that our junior players remain fit and active and importantly from the police’s point of view keeping them off the streets and reducing anti-social behaviour so definitely a win-win for all involved,” he added.
The contributions will be beneficial for the younger generation of rugby players in Salford, and will be a positive outcome providing them with a safe space to improve and enjoy the sport.
This was continued by Inspector Steven Corless, the Salford district said: “The work that organisations like this do is second-to-none and I hope that the money donated will help provide a safe and supportive environment for our youths to explore new skills and enhance their abilities and confidence.”
