The Women’s Rugby World Cup kicks off in August and September and some of the action is taking place here at the Salford Community Stadium.
The stadium has been home to the Sale Sharks since 2012 and was used in the premier 15s and premiership. It is one of the furthest north locations in the Rugby World Cup 2025 lineup.
Four matches are scheduled with Australia versus Samoa on Saturday August 23 at 12pm from pool A and Scotland versus Wales at 2:45pm from pool B.
Canada versus Wales on Saturday August 23 at 12pm from pool B, and Scotland versus Fiji at 2:45pm also from pool B.
Six locations are holding the pool matches – Salford, Brighton and Hove, Exeter, York, Sunderland, and Northampton.
The winners will then progress to the quarter finals, taking place on September 13 and 14 then the semi-finals on September 19 and 20 and the final on September 27 at 4pm.
The final will take place at Twickenham, London, and is expected to be an 82,000 sellout.
England automatically qualified for the tournament, being the host nation, and are the favourites to win, however New Zealand poses a big threat, being six times winners.
The tournament now features an expanded format of 16 teams compared to the previous rugby world cup in New Zealand in 2021, which only had 12, showing the growth in the women’s game.
Salford City Council posted about the tournament: “The world’s best teams. One massive tournament.”
