Recently sacked Plymouth Argyle manager and English football legend Wayne Rooney was pictured at a Salford City training session on Monday — sparking rumours as to why the former Manchester United striker might be at the ground.

The ex-Manchester United player was pictured with former teammates Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs, who are co-owners of the club alongside their fellow Class of 92 members Phil Neville, Gary Neville, Nicky Butt and David Beckham.

Commenters on Salford City’s post sharing the news guessed that Rooney might be there to discuss taking on a management position at the club.

This sighting of Rooney comes after his recent comments saying he would “Love to go back in [to management]” — adding that it would “have to be the right club.”

“Football royalty watching training today 👑,” commented the Salford City Football Club account on Instagram.

The sighting of Rooney has been met with mixed reviews on social media.

One Salford City fan wrote: “Last thing we need”

“Please don’t let him near the first team,” wrote another.

However, a third fan reacted more positively. “Giggsy, Scholes, Rooney: arguably United’s best ever players,” read their comment.

Salford City currently sit 8th in the EFL League Two and host Bromley tonight at the Peninsula Stadium for their next game. They will be seeking to put an end to their four-game winless run.
