Multiple businesses around Salford have been shortlisted for the Manchester Food and Drink Festival Awards in 2024. 

The nominated businesses have been announced and the region’s food and drink, with the winners being awarded the prize this month.

The awards event that will be held on January 27 2024, at New Century House in Manchester for the Food and Drink Festival Awards.

Multiple Salford businesses have been welcomed with 17 categories this year with 136 nominees.

And shortlisted in the categories it includes the Affordable Eats Venue of the Year, where three Salford based businesses have received recognition.

Maida’s Grill House on the Liverpool Road – Salford

Maida Grill House has been nominated for the award, the restaurant that has been visited by award-winning food critic Jay Rayner. 

The chef praised the grill house for its its ‘great’ and ‘cheap’ curries.

The restaurant based on Liverpool Road, ran by Maida Kosar, and husband Hussein is quietly tucked away but has built a strong community relationship.

The grill house has seen a lot of success, and has definetly built up a fan base from the £8.50 ‘rice and three’ dish, which is a special dish in Greater Manchester’s curry scene that prioritises affordability.

Maida Grill House will be accostomed to the nominations, already being shortlisted as a finalist for the first ever Manchester Curry Awards 2024.

Mrs A’s Kitchen is another local business that has been nominated for the award.

The local Bangladeshi takeaway based in Eccles serves a collection of authentic Indian dishes.

The restaurant is ran by a proud Salford mother of five children, and opened for business in 2019.

Based on 30 Church Street, visitors of the restaurant will be able to choose from a selection of homecooked meals – and a rotation of signature curries every single day.

Burgerism has also found themselves nominated for the award also.

The ‘Cult’ burger brand ‘ Burgerism’ was founded by three Irish guys, Mark, John, and Pete, in April 2018.

After gaining a large following over lockdown by 2021, the brand was named the eighth most-ordered item on Deliveroo in the UK.

On Ashton Street, Salford, with a small window just below a large sign that says ‘BURGERISM’, they have been able to impress residents consistently.

Another award is the Food and Drink Retailer of the Year, where the Wandering Palate has been nominated.

The Monton based business the Wandering Palate opened in 2021, has been shortlisted once again for the award.

The shop that focuses on sharing a range of food and drinks in the community has been able to become a recognised business on the high street.

The Wandering Palate who serve a variety of  the best wines & craft beers, UK cheese & charcuterie, tea, coffee and a host of luxury larder goodies.

The business on the Monton Road has already received three previous nominations, and they were able to find themselves on the shortlist once again.

The popular food hall Kargo MKT, of Salford Quays, has seen itself bag two nominations for ‘Food Trader of the Year’, with Palestinian restaurant Baity and Ethopian-Eritrean restaurant House of Habesha also featuring on the shortlist.

Amongst the awards there is also the nomination of Foodie Neighbourhood of the Year, with Salford and Monton being nominated.

Three Salford based companies were shortlisted for the Independent Drink Producer of the Year.

The nominees include the Pomona Island Brew Co, as well as the Salford Rum Company who have been inspired by the flavours of the Caribbean rum and spice imports received into Salford Docks during the 1800s.

Another shortlisted drink producer included Pod Pea Vodka, the company based in Irlam were they have been nominated for the prize.

The company making their signature vodka from British peas has been celebrating ‘local brilliance’ through the vegan, and climate positive peas.

They shared: “We’re thrilled to be nominated for Independent Drink Producer of the Year at the Manchester Food and Drink Awards, alongside the amazing Pod Vodka!”

One of the final categories, is the Neighbourhood Venue of the Year in which Vero Moderno has been nomianted for the award.

The Chapel Street based restaurant has become a fan favourite, and has even seen visits from Manchester United and Manchester City players and managers.

The Italian themed restaurant has become a heart beat along Chapel Street receiving raving reviews, and a lot of praise becoming a fan favourite.

Open since 2016, it continues to serve the community and once again be a strong name on the Salford high street – continuing to serve the fresh, incredible food in warm in a friendly surrounding.
