Winter Wildlife Walks at Peel Park

Wildlife enthusiasts are being guided and educated through winter walks led by the Salford Rangers around the city’s parks.

The Winter Wildlife Walk on Saturday January 18 was led by forager and naturalist Dave Winnard.

Participants were taken on a two-hour walk and encouraged to spot the wildlife that resides in Peel Park.

Guided by the Salford Rangers Team and Dave, visitors were given specialist talks on wildlife species, ranging from parakeets to swans.

Throughout the duration of the walks residents are shown how to make them safer and cleaner for the wildlife and the community.

Joe Palframan, from the Salford Rangers Team, said: “These walks aim to teach people some knowledge about wildlife and some basic ID skills.

“They offer the chance to observe some local wildlife and explore Salford’s green spaces.”

Despite the cold weather, the walk saw a great turnout with participants eager to be educated on the wildlife surrounding them.

And with dangers to wildlife becoming increasingly concerning day by day, the walks keep the local community informed on what they can do to keep it safe.

Joe said: “We hope that people learn about the value of wildlife and how they can respect wildlife.

“Watching wildlife can also be therapeutic in the busy world we live in and places like the wetlands are an escape.”

The Winter Wildlife Walk is one of many organised by the Salford Rangers Team which hosts events all year round. These include an annual walking festival in the autumn and bat walks during the summer.
