Salford Lads’ Club has become the filming location for indie pop band The Lottery Winners’ new music video.
The historic venue in Salford, which was saved from closure in November, was the stage for the The Lottery Winners’ and singer-songwriter Frank Turner’s music video, for their single Dirt and Gold.
The music video that was released on Friday 17 January saw the band’s lead singer, Thom Rylance, and Frank entered through the iconic doors.
The pair were filmed training for a boxing match inside the iconic venue before it ended with a heartfelt kiss between the two.
The video is now on 10,000 views, and has received a collection of positive reviews that include “Brilliant, loved it. Another banging tune. Especially love the dance moves.”
Following the video, Head of Youth at the Club, Laura Slingsbury, said that: “It was incredible to meet Frank Turner and the band, and to see how creative and hardworking they all were during the shoot.
“It was such a fantastic experience for the Club, and it’s always a privilege to be part of projects like this that highlight the connection between music and our community.”
The club has a deep connection with the music community, becoming a “site of pilgrimage” for fans of The Smiths.
A photo of themselves and the Club featured on the inner sleeve of ‘The Queen is Dead’ album. This inspired their dedicated Smiths Room, which draws in fans from around the world.
Frank Turner said that Leigh-born band The Lottery Winners are “big fans of The Smiths,” which inspired the location. He said that filming was “wild” and “intense.”
“We had a good time, and we got to be a bit silly here and there,” said the singer-songwriter.
The music video for Dirt and Gold from The Lottery Winners and Frank Turner is out now on YouTube.
