Eccles Rugby Club under-15s aim to raise £900 for a team tour to Scotland

A fundraiser has been launched to raise £900 for Eccles Rugby Club to send their under-15 squad on a tour to Scotland.

The charity fundraiser has been set up with the hope of sending the young squad to Dunbar, Scotland for a competitive challenge in May 2025.

The squad have already received 30 donations, raising over £750 as they get closer to their goal.

The club will be aiming to use the funds to give the young players an offer of exciting and competitive fixtures, as the manager Hannah Dootson said: “This journey is more than just a trip.

“It’s an occasion for our young players to experience the thrill of competitive rugby, foster camaraderie, and create lifelong memories.”

The Eccles under-15’s squad has come a long way from humble beginnings of just six players to now fostering a team of 28.

The club previously had to face the decision to fold from a lack of numbers, but since the rebuild are enthusiastic about this opportunity.

Hannah continued: “At the start of the 2023/2024 season the team was under threat of folding but we all pulled together, got the word out around our local area and now we have 28 wonderful individuals who have all bonded well together.”

The team have also promised to do multiple fundraising events in the future to help alleviate the ‘substantial’ costs covering necessities such as travel and accommodation.

The efforts towards the fundraiser include a bake sale on the weekend of 25 and 26 January, a mothers day afternoon tea with a raffle on March 23 2024 with tickets available here.

The players will also be hosting a car wash on the April 5 and 6, as Hannah added: “This will give the lads a chance to play their first international games and show how far they have progressed in 18 months.

“We would love nothing more than to fulfil their wishes.”

Eccles RFC, having received the Kings Award for Voluntary Service and the National Club Award, pride themselves on being a home grown and community based club offering Rugby to anyone since 1897.

Volunteers are responsible for maintaining the club for the community, and in this instance, they hope the community is able to give back.

The community spirit of the club will aim to see the tour take place in May, and residents in Salford can donate to the fundraiser here.
