Five children homes around Salford have all received good ratings for the third consecutive year following investment by Salford City Council.

The five children homes around Salford have been rated as good by Ofsted for three years in a row due to their high quality care.

The support and investment made by the council has been used to help Salford children and young people thrive. 

During the inspections, one of the homes were also able to be rated as outstanding in leadership and management.

The investments made by the council has seen the homes refurbished to create modern and comfortable places for the city’s most vulnerable children and young people to live in. 

Ofsted has said Salford children’s homes create a family-like environment where children feel safe, secure and valued.

Ofsted also commented: “Children have trusting and secure relationships with staff who know them well and prioritise their wellbeing.

“Staff place children’s wellbeing at the centre of their practice, fostering trusted and nurturing relationships.”

The relationship in Salford has been significant to the children at the home, as young people said: “Staff are the best. They are all kind and fun.

“I love living here – the holidays and activities the best.”

Following the rating Councillor Jim Cammell, Lead Member for Children’s and Young People’s Services at Salford City Council, shared his delight. 

He said: “We are really pleased that our continued investment, both in our people and the homes themselves, has led to another full house of good ratings across all of our children’s homes from Ofsted for the third consecutive year.”

Cllr Cammell continued: “We are very lucky to have dedicated and committed staff who are child-focussed and were commended by Ofsted as placing children’s wellbeing at the centre of their practice as they build trusting and nurturing relationships.

There are good support and wrap around services in Salford and we want our most vulnerable young people to be able to have this support in their local area.”

Cllr. Cammell continued to share that their is an ambition to open a further two new homes. 

The decision by the council will ensure that children and young people can stay within their own city, so that they can form a “stronger sense of community and belonging.” 

He added: “We are working to increase availability of good quality foster carers in the city, or close to the border of Salford.” 

The council has prioritised becoming a UNICEF Child Friendly City within its corporate plan.

Salford City Council will continue on their current efforts in the community, and will aim to aiming to build on its already established commitments to improve the city for young people.

The decision will be an impactful one for the youth of Salford, and could be a major success for the development of young voices in the community.
