Salford Red Devils challenge cup

Salford Red Devils will be waiting ahead of the third round Challenge Cup draw that is set to take place tonight.

The draw that will take place on Tuesday 14 January, will dictate who the Red Devils will compete against in the competition.

The third round draw will held at the Spectrum headquarters of competition sponsors, Betfred – and fans will be able to find out who they are playing with the coverage beginning at 6:30pm tonight (January 14 2025).

The draw will be broadcast live by BBC Sport on iPlayer and Red Button – with all twelve Super League clubs being introduced into rugby league’s most prestigious cup competition.

Bad weather across the UK has caused several Round One and Two ties to be rescheduled – with all clubs/ties involved in Round 2 will receive a ball number.

Those clubs will be picked out first before being pitted against a club from the Super League-only pot.

Ahead of the draw, Red Devils fans will be hotly anticipating the draw with a lot of history in the competition, winning the Challenge Cup during the 1937-38 season.

The ambition will be a final for the club, most recently appearing in the final both in 1969 and 2020.

The more recent final saw Salford lose the 2020 Challenge Cup Final against Leeds Rhinos in an empty Wembley Stadium during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Red Devils were able to beat Catalans Dragons in the Quarter Finals (22-18), and Warrington Wolves in the Semi-Finals (24-22).

And despite the journey to the final, Ian Watson’s side were unable to claim victory in the competition losing the fixture narrowly 17-16 – with the Red Devils making a second half come back.

The draw will be broadcast live by BBC Sport on iPlayer and Red Button and will be take place at 6:30pm – more information can be found here.
