vehicle collided with Green Lane Bridge - Patricroft

Disruptions to travel are expected this morning after a vehicle collided with a railway bridge in Patricroft.

Early this morning (January 7) a lorry collided with the bridge on Green Lane, Eccles, with the incident being reported to the Salford GMP at 7:55am.

The railway bridge next to Patricroft Train Station is currently being inspected by workers from the National Rail.

As a spokesperson from the National Rail said: “Our engineers are inspecting the bridge and track for damage.”

Those travelling on the rail line may see disruptions that will take place between Newton-le-Willows to Manchester Victoria and Manchester Airport.

Lines have reopened, however, a spokesperson from National Rail shared: “Disruption is now expected until 13:00.

“However, whilst service recovers, trains running between these stations may be delayed by up to 30 minutes or cancelled.”

The incident will affect residents travelling via the Northern, TransPennine Express and Transport for Wales services – with alternative services being offered here.

As a spokesperson from Transpenine Express said: “A vehicle has collided with a bridge at Patricroft means that trains are unable to run between Newton-Le-Willows and Manchester Victoria while engineers resolve the issue.”

Residents have been encouraged on check for delays before travelling, with rail replacement services running between stations.

Further updates can be found via the National Rail website here, and we will issue further updates as they are made known.
