Salford City will see the return of Jamie Russell as the Academy manager, who will lead a new-look Academy staff.
Jamie who previously worked with the Ammies from 2017 to 2020 will be a familiar face around the club and hope to recapture previous achievements.
The Academy Manager will hold a similar role during that period, where he oversaw a number of the academy’s early achievements, including two memorable FA Youth Cup runs and two league titles.
After Jamie’s departure the club, moving to the role as Head of Football at Swindon Town, the club has improved massively, upgrading to a category three academy in the summer of 2023.
His return will aim to add to that success – with a total of 49 players now making the transition to the men’s first team debuts over the past seven years.
The combination of Jamie’s previous club achievements, and the exciting and flourishing academy could be vital for the club’s future developments.
Jamie said: “It’s really exciting, I was here when the academy started and it was a Category Four academy, and now I’m just really excited to being part of a Category Three academy and looking to strive forward.
“When you work in development it’s always great to see young players come through and make debuts on the pitch.
“And also young players that you’ve worked with go on to have other careers across academies and stay in football, it’s certainly enjoyable.”
The aim of the appointment will hope to bring through home grown Salford talent, as he continued: “The recruitment is really, really important and this is such a fantastic area to find the next hidden gem.”
However, Jamie will not be arriving alone, with Danny Rose from Swindon will be appointed as Head of Academy Coaching.
The former Manchester United academy player and reserves captain, the 36-year-old made nearly 600 senior appearances at the likes of Oxford United, Northampton Town, Portsmouth and Swindon.
Throughout his playing career he was able to find success winning the League Two with The Cobblers, Pompey and The Robins – and will be looking to replicate in his coaching career.
Rose started his new journey whilst playing Darlington, completing his coaching badges alongside playing where he also held the position of assistant manager.
In January this year Danny returned back to his former club Swindon, where he held the role as Youth Development Phase Lead Coach.
The role looks to be an exciting opportunity, that will allow himself and Salford to grow together.
He said: “I’ve had a real varied experience in terms of all the phases that I’ve coached across and now I’m going into this role, coaching the coaches if you like.
“This is an amazing opportunity to learn a great deal, and it’s a bit of a blank canvas in terms of how we can re-design some of the programme.
“The opportunity to work with Jamie was a massive factor, I’ve naturally got some links to Untied which is great but when I spoke to Jamie about it after interviewing, he said to me ‘this is where it’s at’ and the work that can be done.”
Danny continued: “I felt it was the right step in my development as a coach really.”
The club have also confirmed the appointment of Chris McCann as Lead Youth Development Phase (YDP) Coach.
The 37-year-old who has a wide experience in the footba;l pyramid, playing for Burnley and Wigan Athletic where he won promotions from the Championship and League One respectively.
McCann will be looking to bolster his already impressive resume at the Ammies, and improve the club with its advancing youth setup.
