Salford-based property developer Sandywood Property has donated £100,000 to Salford Youth Zone.
The developer will be providing the donation across four years to the Salford Youth Zone (SYZ) that is set to open next summer.
The financial support offered by Sandywood Property and will contribute towards the development and maintenance of the site.
The £100,000 in funding will also include helping fund activities and services that young people rely on, such as sports clubs, music facilities, and art and craft classes.
The contribution has been made by Sandywood Property that was set up by Salford-born Paul Sweeney in 2021, who has been behind significant renovation projects across Salford.
These developments include the £600,000 renovation of the 200-year-old-building that has been running as cafe, Worsley Coffee Co, as well as currently working on renovating another 200-year old building in Swinton which will open in 2025.
The £100,000 contribution made by Sandywood will be donating part of the rental income from Leopard Pie and Worsey Coffee co to Salford Youth Zone, meaning that customers of each facility will play a part to supporting the Youth Zone.
This will be a vital contribution with company founder Paul Sweeney, as his local ties were motivating for his involvement in SYZ.
Paul Sweeney, director of Sandywood Properties said: “It’s a real privilege to be working with Salford Youth Zone as its latest donor.
“I’m a proud Salfordian and passionate about ensuring that young people in the community have access to opportunities that will help them develop essential skills and discover their interests and hobbies.”
He continued: “Salford Youth Zone is a brilliant addition to our local area and one that the wider Sandywood Property team and I are excited to be a part of.”
The gratitude of the donation was shared by Adam Farricker, CEO of Empower Youth Zones.
He said: “Paul’s experience both in his career and personal life means that he has a first-hand understanding of the importance of the work that we do and the difference it makes.
“As we come to the end of 2024, we want to express our gratitude to all of our donors that we have partnered with in the last year.
“We can’t wait to see all that 2025 has in store for Empower and the impact that Salford Youth Zone will have.”
The donation follows Muse and Assura joining SYZ as patron donors in November, with 70 per cent of the annual running costs of a Youth Zone coming from patrons.
The SYZ is set to open its doors in Belvedere Road, Pendleton, in 2025 and will be open seven days a week, and will support thousands of young people in Salford communities
The facility will offer more than 20 activities on offer every session for young people aged 8-19, or up to 25 for those with an additional need or disability.
