Plans have been approved to build a six-storey block of flats on the site of the historic Salford’s Adelphi Lads Club.
Beluga Group and ForHousing have secured planning permission to build 63 apartments on the former youth facility at the junction of Cannon Street and North George Street.
The new apartments will have on-site car and cycle parking, and landscaping.
They will be available for social rent.
The Adelphi Lads Club was founded in 1888, and was an important facility in the Greengate area.
However, unlike its neighbouring Salford Lads Clubs, the club faded and closed in 2008, with the building abandoned after a fire in 2010.
The building has already been partially demolished, and the remaining structure has been subject to vandalism, with graffiti and smashed windows.
Developer Beluga Group, which has a track record in site regeneration and housing development, will be joined by ForHousing, a not-for-profit organisation committed to tackling the housing crisis with social and affordable homes.
The flats will contribute to ForHousing’s plans to deliver a further 1,337 newhomes across Salford over the next five years.
The development will combine three-storey and six storey elements to provide 36 one-bedroom apartments, and 27 two-bedroom apartments.
The apartments will be close to transport services in nearby Chapel Street (bus and rail), and will offer residents close network connections to Salford and Manchester City Centre.
