Local MPs have signed a written letter to Government Ministers calling for intervention over closing post office branches.
The decision made by the Salford MP following last months announcement that more than 100 post office branches are at risk of closure.
The decision was made on Tuesday 12 November, and proposed that the postal service looking to offload 115 directly-owned Crown Post Offices, that employ approximately 1,000 people.
The move from the Post Office could see the branches transferred to retail partners or postmasters, or potentially closed.
With the two branches in Salford at risk that include both Eccles and Salford Precinct.
However, Rebecca Long Bailey MP along with a group of over 20 cross-party MPs in writing to the Chair and CEO.
The group of 21 MP that range from Salford, Fylde, St Albans, and Portsmouth North asked for answers to a number of fundamental questions.
The letter was also signed by Worsley and Eccles MP Michael Wheeler, requesting a full written response that will be able to provide full transparency to everyone involved.
Some of the questions included asking what the criteria used by the Post Office to close the branch, as well as asking if there will be public consultations on every closure.
Rebecca Long Bailey MP said: “I’ve written to Government Ministers asking them to intervene and call a halt to these plans.
“Salford City’s Post Office is an essential part of our local economy and is relied upon by local residents and businesses, and those who collect their pensions and benefits.”
She continued: “Salford’s Post Office has good access arrangements in a prominent position, with well-trained staff who have a wealth of experience between them.
“For them to receive this news before Christmas is a kick in the teeth.”
A petition was launched by former Salford Mayor John Mullen, who has lived in Eccles for more than 50 years launching the campaign to save the branch – which can be found here.
