A Walkden mum has slammed ‘a Christmas Grinch’ who stole festive lights from her garden.
Tammy Fullelove was shocked after discovering a video of a man who went into her front garden to steal her two display reindeers.
Tammy said: “I felt sick. Stick to my stomach that someone has blatantly been across the garden.”
She continued: “He sat behind Rob’s (Tammy’s husband) car for about five minutes as they tried to figure out how to untie the lights from the electric box.”
The incident occurred at 1.50am on Tuesday (27th November) and was a huge shock to the family.
Tammy said: “We half expected to wake up on Wednesday morning to him having stolen the Christmas tree or the inflatable he had already been down once and had broken the Christmas tree lights.” .
The incidents happening across Walkden seem to be taking the Christmas spirit.
Tammy said: “You are putting these decorations up for you to enjoy because you want your house all lit up and bright, cheerful and happy, and someone is coming along destroying that and thinks it is okay to do that.”
Tammy’s husband Rob is normally ‘Mr Christmas’ but the theft has dampened his festive spirit.
She added: “It’s totally put him off. We have lived here for 10 years. We have three massive inflatables that are 10 feet tall. We buy more and more things to go outside each year.”
Tammy’s three-year-old daughter loved the four-legged animals that were in the garden,
She said: “Autumn is broken-hearted that her pets aren’t out there anymore because she used to go out there and feed them.
“The boys are deeply disturbed someone’s been on our property, and it isn’t right.
“This is the Walkden Grinch. He is taking the Christmas spirit.”
Tammy’s Christmas magic house is highly visible along Walkden North, which may have made them a target.
She said: “That is also part of the problem, the fact we are on the corner of a busy road, the amount of people who see it and kids that stop to see the lights.”
The illuminated characters are not cheap to replace, and have led to family losing a lot more than just their Christmas decorations.
She added: “What we have paid to buy the reindeers and put them outside it’s not on. The time and effort to put them up – get them all colour coordinated. They aren’t cheap, and now they have been stolen.”
Other residents with Christmas displays are also worried.
She said: “If you go down Kingsway or Broadway, the amount of people who have got loads of decorations up or things outside like inflatables on the roofs – it’s trying to find a place you can put them and not have them stolen or in a place to put people off stealing them.”
